Last Full Moon of 2019

The full moon sheds light on the subconscious similar to how it lights our earthly paths at night. Since the subconscious is tied to our emotions, we can feel pretty "charged up" on full moons. I easily tune in to the energy around me as an empath and full moons can really intensify this for me. As an artist, I work with the power of the subconscious imagination and use it in meditation to creatively guide these feelings alongside the astrological symbols reflected under various moon cycles. I am excited to start doing this for the Inner Alchemy community in 2020. Until then, here are some ideas I will meditate on for the final full moon of the decade this week.

The last full moon of the year is Thursday, December 11, at 9:12 pm PST and will be in the sign of Gemini. The planet Mercury is associated with Gemini, the twins, and rules communication and travel. Every full moon is in direct opposition in the sky to the sun. As of November 22, the sun has been in the sign of Sagittarius the centaur, which is ruled by the planet Jupiter, known for good luck and big opportunities.

My thoughts are drawn to Mercury, the Roman messenger god, also known as Hermes in Greek myth. In the Greek story of Persephone, Hermes was the only god that could travel to the underworld and persuade Hades to let Persephone come back to her home on Earth. This Gemini full moon empowers us to work with this facility of mind and keen attention to understand diverse perspectives so we can communicate/confront ideas and/or emotions that come up, especially if they feel foreign. The meditation below is one I will do to help me sort all that out and I hope it gives you some insight, as well.

Take three deep cleansing breathes. Slowly count to 5 on the in-breath, hold for 5, and slowly exhale to the count of 5 as you relax into your body. Imagine diverse thoughts and ideas in your mind are clouds. Recognize them, each in their soft wispy state, thank them, and just watch them float by. See the full moon highlighting these clouds and imagine they are all there to enlighten you during the meditation, but let them float by like a cloud. Keep breathing naturally and come back to these clouds if and when your mind wanders.

Since Sagittarius is a fire sign and Gemini is air, imagine now that you are sitting around a big outdoor bonfire. See the colorful flames lick the sky, higher and higher. Watch the sparks float up into the sky until it looks like each one becomes its own star. Give yourself time to find the spark that feels right and imagine a thread that connects you to that spark. Catch a ride on this spark and float up through the clouds, past the earth's atmosphere to where you can see and feel the expansiveness of the galaxies above. Follow this spark of light and travel wherever your heart and imagination calls. You can ask an animal or spirit guide to help you fly or float. Just allow your imagination to bring who and whatever is needed. Spend time exploring this realm as you breathe easily and naturally. You might imagine you are a star or expand to be an entire galaxy, whatever feels good. Definitely ask any questions you have since, after all, we are in the realm of the messenger god here. When you are ready, come back down to the bonfire bringing back all the knowledge gained and peaceful emotions felt. Thank your guides and the spark that is your spark of life. Allow the thread to that spark connect to your heart to assist you as you move forward in the final days of 2019. This connection can lead you ever closer to your personal truth, a Sagittarian theme. Relax into this knowing and come back into your body feeling gratitude and peace. Take a few breaths, wiggling and stretching from toes to nose. I hope you enjoy this powerful moon play!
